888 World Poker Crown
May 17, 2008
©2008 PKR Pete – The 888.com World Poker Crown, hosted at the Peralada Castle in Barcelona is over, and coming out on top was Jack Hinchley, a Canadian plumber.
The World Poker Crown is a unique tournament which saw a total of 2,200 online poker players duke it out for a spot in the 8 person strong televised offline final table. It ended up being a European and Canadian table, and leading the chip count was: Jack Hinchley (349,000), Bjorn Van Bavel (41,000), Mark Castonguay (52,000), Piotr Stanislaw (102,000), Bart Wetsteijn (139,000), Michael Lawson (207,000), Bert van Doesburg (38,000), Mark Roessler (58,000).
Jack had a massive lead from the very beginning, and he held his nerve to eliminate 5 of the 6 players on his way to heads up against fellow Canadian Mark Lawson, who has been coached by World Series of Poker winner, Annette Obrestad.
Jack had a whopping 3:1 cheap lead over Mark, which I am sure you can all agree, would have been a great come back in heads up against such a chip lead. He did manage to whittle down Jack and started to get a few chips on his short stack.
The final hand saw Mark with a pair of 10’s, and Jack had an offsuit KQ, and with the flop, came K, J, 6 all hearts, Mark pushed all-in, Jack called with top pair and hit a K on the river to win.
An excellent tournament by 888.com and I am looking forward to their next tournament.
